Morning Denzil

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I want to thank you for a great visit at St Anthony’s Education Centre.

I was really impressed by the amount of activity that was taking place. I believe that listening to someone telling you about Maths or Science, or even reading and/or studying Maths or Science in a book is not that effective. This is illustrated in much the same way that reading or listening about exercise will make you fit. You have to DO to be effective.

The model of peer-to-peer teaching and collaborative learning is one followed by many successful teachers and still one of the best ways to get learners to work and learn.

The fact that learners are taking responsibility for their own learning is one of the keys to the success of this project. In addition to this there is the incentive of performing well in the Winning Teams game on a Friday. These two combined give you a winning recipe.

One of the things that impressed me the most was the look in the eyes of the participating learners. One could clearly see that these learners have a purpose – something I miss in the eyes of many of the learners (and unfortunately also teachers) in many of our project schools.

Thanks again for a very enjoyable and enlightening experience.

Kind regards

Hercules
